So this is another one where I didn't do my planning accurately, as I thought (and thus said on the vid) that this was in Manchester. Oops.
The Cage is a sort of folly at Lyme Park. It was initially
built around 1580 as a hunting lodge, possibly with a secondary function as a
watchtower, and was later used as a holding prison for poachers. In the 1730s,
it was rebuilt and became a banqueting room and eventually a residence for
estate workers.
It’s a 20 minute walk from the main house at Lyme (which is
a bit boring), but the views across Manchester and the Peak District are pretty
damn good.
