I built a steel Fire Pit for The Barn. Ordered some steel from Metals4U, bought a cheap Gasless MIG from Amazon, found a design I liked on the WWW, and bingo.
Learnt a lot, some nice welds and some very dodgy welds (see photo of the one I blew). The angle grinder is your friend when it comes to beginners welding it would seem.
Put it though it's paces last night, with a nice roaring fire and a chilli-con-carne cooked on the open flame.
Update
The original plan I followed had a grate for holding up the logs from the base of the firepit. So I decided I'd give it a go, as a) I hadn't had the welder out for a while, and b) I'm gonna need to do something similar when I build the main cooking grates. It was actually pretty tough welding the small rods, but I just about got there
