Quite a few of my old mates are starting to wind down, and that generally means taking the Friday off. We decided to create "the Friday Club", and it was funny to see that more than 50% of the group joined that sub-group, much to the annoyance of the rest of the full time unemployed.
Anyway, the first day out was to the Uxbridge World War II bunker, and it was brilliant. For some reason this had passed me by, but I'm glad cause it was a great surprise.
It's the only one of the 5 underground bunkers that is open to the public, and was instrumental in the defense of the British Isles.
You will have seen these images on many movies, but to see it in real life was awe-inspiring
The way they had 30,000 people from the Observer core, passing information manually through layers of command to ultimately end up as a single map was fascinating. Who needs AI !
And this was where Churchill sat........apparently
