ABC: Buckinghamshire: Quest: LQ:BUCKINGHAMSHIRE - The Nether Side

So, I looked up the location for the Quest in Buckinghamshire. It seemed to be in the middle of a field with no obvious reason for being there. Actually, to be honest, now that I’ve visited, I still don’t really understand why it was there—but hey, it was on the list, and it was the Buckinghamshire one.

I was most intrigued as to where it was. It’s in a village in a specific area of Buckinghamshire that I don't know that well. I grew up in the county, but I grew up in the Chiltern Hills. There's this whole area north of the Chilterns—sort of westward of Oxfordshire, north of Wendover, and towards Milton Keynes. It's quite flat land, but full of some incredibly beautiful villages.

The M40 is the road that usually takes me through that part of the world, so it was good to get off the main drag. I arrived at a beautiful little village called Nether Winchendon, but it was so tiny that there wasn't really anywhere to park. I was a bit concerned about the verges, but I ended up wedging my car onto one, wondering if I was going to get told off by a local Lord or Lady!

I marched off towards the quest. I was following a footpath, but I had to find my way between two quite traditional old manor houses. It felt almost like I was going through their garden—in fact, at one point, I was going through a back garden. That's always a bit of a strange feeling on a footpath, but I love the fact that you can do that in the UK.

Across the field, I found the spot. There was a ridge of trees and what appeared on the OS map to be a stream, though there wasn't any water running through it. The quest location was tucked away in a very inconspicuous place—quite literally in the middle of a set of bushes, in a field, next to a village in the middle of Buckinghamshire.

I'm glad I did it. Obviously, I had to go because it's part of the quest, but it was good. It got me out of the M40 corridor and into the actual, real Buckinghamshire. All good stuff.
