Summary (by AI): My walk through Dedham Vale, or "Constable Country," was a fantastic and beautiful experience that evoked wonderful memories of visiting the site of The Hay Wain with a friend.
Blog: I’ve been looking into the Essex Way recently, with the idea of tackling a segment or two as part of my walking routes. During my research, I realized that the path runs directly through Dedham Vale. It’s a stunningly beautiful part of the world, often affectionately known as "Constable Country."

Dedham itself is a lovely village in its own right, but if you take a short detour from the main path, it takes you to Flatford Mill. That’s where you’ll find Willy Lott’s Cottage, the building immortalized in John Constable’s most famous painting, The Hay Wain.

I headed out there on a beautiful day and had a fantastic walk. Once I reached the area where the painting was composed, I spent some time trying to work out the exact perspective Constable would have had to take my own photo. I think I managed to get a comparison that isn’t too bad at all.

Being back there brought back some wonderful memories. A friend of ours moved out of London to South Suffolk, which is just a stone's throw from Dedham Vale. I remember one particular weekend when we all came out from the city to visit him. We spent the day walking around the Vale and visiting the site of The Hay Wain, and afterward, we went back to his place. Our friend, Rob, cooked a truly fantastic roast—a crown roast of lamb. I can still remember it vividly even now.
