So I'd always had an imagine in my minds eye as to what this area would look like, and I am more that happy to say that I've basically achieved it. It's a great space, and we've already had loads of great time down there.
I'd taken a while to work out what I wanted, but I guess the main inspiration ended up being an evening I spent at Beech Wood camping, where they had a simple open pit surrounded by logs. I basically riffed off of that.
For years we'd been sitting round a makeshift fire pit. It worked but......

And the, after a LOT of lugging MOT Type 2, bricks, stones, and digging a trench for the steel fire pit, it was ready for................
Update
I decided to lower the firepit itself into the ground, and achieved this by digging the whole an additional 20 cm deeper. This way the heat and radiation given off starts at the feet and not the stomach ! Should have learnt from the log burner lowering project really !
